The wood paneled walls and soothing lighting give The Cottage a certain warmth that the neighborhood has enjoyed for over 25 years.
The owner says that a testament to his restaurant is the number of return guests-often patrons who once lived in the area and now travel distances to visit the restaurant. Along with the deliciously authentic Szechuan cuisine, diners enjoy free wine with dinner.

Not my favorite Pad Thai, but everything else has been great. And got here very fast.

Cheap and fast but couldn't finish it.

Ordered from these guys once and my pad thai was filled with egg shells, I decided I wouldn't order from them again. Then a friend convinced me today to give them one more try, and he ended up with a *small strip of metal* in his meal. Unless you like random literal TRASH in your food, I'd steer clear of this place for sure.

Extremely disappointing! Food was greasy and not at all flavorful. Blah.

ordered chiken and broccoli. Delivery was fast but the food was bland and tasteless.

When I was going to China everyone told me that I would hate the food there. Well I didn't. It was fresher and lighter than I ever had in New York. I had difficulty finding a place I liked when I got back. I have never been disappointed with The Cottage. It is light and delicious. I am always happy, especially with the Szechwan Dumplings. YUM!

What can I say but very impressed. I've never felt compelled to review a seamless restaurant before but the first meal I got from The Cottage far exceeded my expectations. All the food arrived in time and hot enough that it felt like it had just left the kitchen. The orange chicken was excellent - best I've had and that's saying a lot for the sampling of Chinese places I've used over the years. Well worth an order.

Very good food. There is not many too choose from on the upper west side. Just wish they would offer spare ribs!!!
Posted 3 months ago by laura k.
Worst vegetable spring roll I have ever had. Also, did not include any utensils! Will not be ordering again.
Posted 3 months ago by Bailey W.
Mediocre. The entrees are just swimming in oil -- that's the "sauce!"

I have become somewhat addicted to this restaurant! It's consistently fresh, tasty, and for such a great price you can order in or eat out without breaking your bank. Love everything on the menu, but always get the beef fried dumplings and cold noodles. Just ordered another great meal, and can't wait to get it delivered :D

very accommodating...consistent food

Best in the neighborhood. Try the Chicken with Cashews Nuts.

One of the best chinese restaurants on the UWS. Always good food and good service with me. Eating in the restaurant is great too.

The food is great but the delivery people are about the rudest I have ever met. I would NEVER order food from them again as I do not appreciate having them ring my buzzer twice after 20 seconds and then throwing the food in my face.

Better for eating in than ordering delivery. But good food -- all the time, for years.
Posted 9 months ago by GEETA C.
chicken and broccoli was ok although a little oily, and the szechwan dumplings were soggy, mushy, and inedible
Posted 10 months ago by Tina M.
Food is great and consistent. Love the fried rice and chow fun.
Posted 11 months ago by Daphna J.
Absolutely horrific. The hot noodles were mushy, watery and tasteless. The chicken with peanuts was way overcooked - chewy and tough. Really awful.

very good dumplings. anything that goes with sesame sauce is good here. Like the good old days. tried the crispy shredded beef. not like the good old days, but the closest I've found so far. the beef somewhat crispy. the thinly sliced julienne veggies too crisp and was very oily the next day. since i've been so disappointed in local Chinese fare, this is the place I'm willing to give a chance. Hope you do too.

This has been my go-to chinese food for the past 18 years. The delivery time takes much shorter than seamlessweb says. As a health conscious vegan who wants to pig out on greasy chinese food sometimes this place is perfect, but it also has options for less calorie dishes, though if your on a diet i wouldn't recommend it. I love all the bean curd (tofu) dishes, as well as the pad thai and the sesame noodles.

Mediocre and bland. Chow fun had no flavor; egg roll overcooked and oily; sichuan dumplings in hot oil were muddy and flat. Waste of money.

really cheap for the area. the seafood dumplings are a must and the chow fun is pretty good

Fast delivery but they never include chopsticks and the food is too oily.

Food was not tasty. Secondly, I specifically wrote i was allergic to nuts just as a precaution and the seafood dumplings (which had no description) were smothered in peanut sauce which i didn't realize until mid-chew. I called to tell them that a- they sent the wrong order and b- I'm allergic to nuts and the person on the other end said i should have called. Perhaps, but i reminded her that i indicated this in the instruction section to which she literally laughed and said that they don't have time to read through them.

Great Value. Dumplings in hot oil are amazing.

So disappointing! Everything I ordered was bland and greasy. There was actually oil streaming out of the wax paper pouch containing the egg rolls. The pork fried rice had no flavor with large spots of unseasoned white rice and only dry shriveled strips of pork. Unfortunately the rest of the meal was equally bad.

Cottage is a great Chinese place to order in from. Our favorites are the fried dumplings, which are delicious! Delivery times are variable but generally pretty fast. The menu has a good selection of items (including pad thai!), and the prices are pretty reasonable. We order from here a lot!

the flavor of the shrimp and scallops was delicious!

Just ok Chinese food, but we like the fried rice a lot.

We order The Cottage a couple times a month. The delivery comes VERY fast. The food is good - there aren't too many good chinese places on the surrounding blocks. I always get the "Create Your Own" dish and the scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes are very crisp and come with a yummy dipping sauce. The only problem is that occasionally I've ordered the appetizers last, and when the appetizers are at the bottom of the order, they don't send them for some reason. Those times, I've called and they have sent me the appetizers, but then I have to tip again, deal with the person on the phone, etc. Now I just make a point to choose the soups and appetizers first, then the main courses.

Not only do you receive free wine if you eat at the restaurant, the quality of the delivered food is excellent. The szechuan dumplings are great (very spicy), the orange beef or chicken are good choices, and if I'm looking for something healthier, I can get some pretty tasty steamed dishes.

This is standard Chinese fare, but for that, it's pretty good. Delivery quick and order was correct.

I wind up ordering from The Cottage almost every Sunday night because it's my idea of the ultimate comfort food, just what I need to face the dramas of the upcoming week. I always start my order with their hot & sour soup--honestly, I do make an effort to sample another soup, but I never seem to get around to it, it's just so consistently soothing. Spicy but not too spicy--perfect.

Very good Chinese food at very reasonable prices. Fast delivery - I don't know how they cook so quickly! Wonton soup in particular is great.
Posted 2 years ago by Eric F.
DELICIOUS! The wonton soup was really well made and tasted great. Just what I needed to soothe my sore throat. I order from here all the time. Its great food with great delivery. I always know it will be here on time!

The Cottage is my favorite Chinese on the UWS! No one makes Pad Thai or spicy foods like they do, and their delivery guys are super fast and friendly. Also, the white rice - cooked to perfection! Just a wonderful experience all the way around. My go-to comfort food.

always fast, speedy service, even in bad weather! i'm never disappointed when I order. Gourmet it's not, but at a $10 order minimum, this is great.

Make sure you explicitly say to include soy sauce in your delivery order. And make sure you put it "at the top" and not just at the end of your order. I wrote in the note section to add soy sauce because I saw that previous reviews mentioned it. When my food came, of course there was no soy sauce. So I called them back since I just moved into this apartment and don't have any soy sauce and it's 30 degrees outside. The woman literally screamed at me on the phone saying that I didn't put the note in the right place. Bottom line -- EXPLICITLY SAY THAT YOU WANT SOY SAUCE WHEREVER YOU CAN.

Good food at a great price. I recommend asking for the dishes steamed with the sauce on the side for a healthy alternative.
Posted 2 years ago by Jeremy F.
Watch out for this place - the food is ok for the price but they often fail to include things - an ingredient in a "design your own dish" selection, condiments, rice (or they send white when brown is requested). If they are trying to save money they have the wrong idea - as they are losing customers with these unnecessary annoyances. It seems to be too frequent (as noted in other comments) to be an occasional oversight - seems like a cost-saving practice for them, but customers should get what they order, and pay for!

I honestly have never gotten sick from a restaurant before, but this awful restaurant put me in the hospital. I was throwing up for 5 hours, and obviously got food poisoning. I have never written a review for anything before but I think people should know how terrible this establishment is and highly recommend to never go here. The food tasted weird but I didn't think much about it until my face was in the toilet for a couple of hours. Thanks for ruining my New Years Eve. The Cottage, your the worst. Sincerely, Disgruntled Customer
Food was very good, BUT this is the second time in a row restaurant did not provide me with duck sauce or soy sauce, even though I asked for it.

Good cheap Chinese.
Good enough. Fast. Cheap. Steamed dumplings and Oiled dumplings are great.

Decent food. Best prices in the area. Sometimes a little too greasy. You have to ask for no MSG or they will use it.
Posted 3 years ago by Dawn M.
The best Chinese delivery in the neighborhood. For what it is, the food is good, prices fair, and the service is the fastest on the planet!
Posted 3 years ago by Peter A.
I ordered from the healthy menu - very fresh and delicious. The meal was delivered in less than 30 minutes and arrived piping hot.... in 27-degree weather! The soup was so hot, I had to wait for it to cool! Excellent!

The food was good, but too oily.
Posted 3 years ago by LINGLING H.
Fast Delivery, Food was Hot, and the order was right. The food was absolutely inedible. Chicken /Garlic sauce was flavorless and swimming in a poool of liquid grease. Wonton soup was hot water scallions and overcooked mushy wontons.
Posted 3 years ago by Richard K.
Mediocre at best. The vegetables were overcooked, the chicken was dry, and the flavors overall lacked punch. Far inferior to Ollie's.
Posted 3 years ago by Yaron M.
Best value Chinese on the UWS, and fast delivery.
Posted 3 years ago by David L.
Fried dumplings are the best I've ever had! Other food is standard; not too oily.

No fork and the pad thai was NOT spicy. Next time I ask for hot sauce. Not bad quality as far as the dish goes, but slightly greasy. Not sure if it's worth the price, tho.

Best Sesame Chicken around, great Pad Thai

The food was average, I guess you get what you pay for. One big issue I had was they gave no napkins, utensils, chopsticks or anything. I have recently move to the area and specifically ordered takeout because I haven't unpacked those things yet. Very frustrating.

Very fast delivery. They did not provide the fresh mustard I asked for - or even a fortune cookie! The food was good and priced about right.

The food was good, cheap and fast, even on a busy and very rainy night.

Food quality was decent especially given the price. Delivery was super fast and the food was nice and hot. Will definitely order from here again.

This is the best chinese in New York. Better than chinatown, and a huge step up from the average chinese hole in the wall. This is real quality, creative chinese. And if you eat in the restaurant, free wine!

This food is fabulous. I have tried several dishes now and all have been great. Delivery is always fast. Great place.

I don't exactly have high standards for Chinese food, but this was not the best comparatively speaking. The roasted pork buns, in particular, were lacking. They were probably the toughest I've had and if the shape weren't there to fool me, I would have thought I was eating pork wrapped in Wonder Bread.
